Hip Imbalance

The hip joint is a ball and socket type fitting. When the ball and socket do not function in balance with each other weight bearing in the centre of the body can become an issue. Taking posture away from body centre. If just one hip doesn’t seem to work right it may be something called impingement (FAI). Hip impingement can be because of an odd shape ball and or socket relative to each other. The subtleties in the shape of the hip include a pincer type joint that impinges the hip or you may have a flattened part of the ball part of the hip joint. Either way your hip’s ability to move freely will be affected.

Hip stability occurs when the muscles active upon the hip fire together in concert. This muscular orchestration is known as being in balance. Each hip stabilises the other, so if one side hip muscles are not in balance then the hips will not work together evenly. E.G. The hip joint may be aggravated by sitting still too long or by walking too long or using the stairs or even standing up from sitting down. Hip issues can involve twisting the torso and or weight bearing.

Once the hips are out of balance the body will begin to compensate. Causing other areas of the body to become ‘linked’ to the hip imbalance. Full function of the hip will reduce as stability cannot be sustained or reached. Instable movements lead to compensated posture. Hips heal best when muscles are in balance and no joint impingement exists. The sweet spot between over doing it and underdoing can be difficult to gauge when your hips are out of balance.

Lee examines the body in a (w)holistic way, so when he gets a poorly hip presented to him, he examines all the body and how the body interrelates with itself in posture and in motion. Clearing compensation , dealing with weight bearing and muscular co-ordination.
