Neck Trouble

Within the neck just like in the lower back it is easy to fall into anatomy pain blaming. There is a progression in the deterioration of the neck region just as there is for the lower back. Muscular imbalance leads to facet syndrome which can be complicated by a neuropathy. When a neuropathy is present it means the nerve in the upper extremity is entrapped somewhere along its course affecting the movement characteristics of the cervical spine. More than one neuropathy can exist at any one time affecting how the spine can comfortably move.

When the nerve near to the spine is entrapped, it is called a radiculopathy or a nerve root tension. This is where increased point of tension occurs at or very near to where the nerve exists from the spinal cord before it travels down the arm. An intermediary entrapment can be plexus tension which in the upper extremity can lead to thoracic outlet syndrome. The musculature of the body will contort to protect the nerves and the spine to their own detriment.

Degenerative Myelopathy

The cervical spine has a unique movement from backward to forward where the vertebrae slide forward on top of the vertebrae below, this normal physiological movement is thought to be one of the first movements to be lost. Therefore, the last movement to be regained when Lee is rebalancing your spine.

When a cervical disc is present in a bulge, prolapse or herniation then it will affect the loading of the joints of the cervical spine confusing how joint and muscles communicate with each other. One can get sensation changes in the arm, neck, face or legs from a cervical disc issue. When multiple levels of the cervical spine are thought to have disc issues then the spine is said to have disc disease. Once disc disease has set in then other neural anatomy becomes restricted and can lead to a myelopathy situation where the spinal cord itself is restricted.

Lees job is to help your body rebalance as best it can spreading the load between various anatomical parts of your body, ready for you to rebuild your movement confidence. However, due to the viscoelastic nature of the body, it simply can’t always spring back, and you may be left with reduced discomfort and better movement from Lee’s treatment, but no longer will you have normal ranges of movement or comfort. It really depends on the most part upon how bad it gets, before Lee sees you.
